Trump along with Japanese New Premier Exchange Compliments and Commit to Reinforce ‘Extraordinary’ Bond
In the course of a recent visit to Japan's capital, ex- American leader Donald Trump together with Japan's recently elected Premier Sanae Takaichi exchanged warm praise and vowed to strengthen the already robust bilateral ties.
Highlights from the Meeting
Trump commended Takaichi as a ‘great’ figure and congratulated her on becoming Japan's first female premier. During their discussions at Tokyo's official venue, Trump voiced optimism that she would prove to be one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of the country.
Takaichi, who is a close associate of late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, praised his efforts to address international disputes and according to sources pledged to nominate him for the prestigious award.
Trade and Defense Deals
The two nations revealed a series of joint initiatives in sectors such as energy, AI, and rare earths. Japan-based companies are exploring funding of up to $400bn in the US.
Furthermore, Japan had earlier committed $550bn in strategic American projects, loans, and guarantees as part of an agreement to secure exemption from the former president's import duties.
These moves are viewed as potentially easing any upcoming requests from Trump for Japan to increase its military spending. Takaichi addressed this by promising to fast-track plans to raise defense spending to 2% of GDP.
