NFL Roundup: Denver Edge Struggling Jets in Defensive Affair
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a possible victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," the coach stated after the game.
