A Ton of Anime Updates Dropped During the Holidays

The winter break offer a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to refrain from yelling at relatives. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments came out during the festive period, and if you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. But, the promotional image for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
